Students-Top 10 Things to Know About…

Logging Into Accounts

  1. Your email username (usually your first name_last name#) and password are your login information for many online resources such as logging into your email, Blackboard, EKU_SECURE Wi-Fi,  and library databases.  If you reset your password, it will be reset on all those accounts too.
  2. Your EKU Direct User ID is your EKU ID number and the PIN is a 6 digit number.
  3. To reset your email password that has not yet expired...go to the https://mymail.eku.edu page and click the ‘Change My Password' button.
  4. To reset your email password after the password expired...Contact the IT Service Desk at 859.622.3000 to reset your password if you remember the answer to your security question.
  5. If you don't remember the answer to your security question and need to reset your email password take a picture ID to the IT Service Desk in Combs 208 to reset it.
  6. To reset the EKU Direct PIN, students must email a request to have your PIN reset through your EKU email account to registration@eku.edu or come in person with a picture ID to either the Registrar’s Office on the main campus (Whitlock 239) or the Resource Center/Information Desk at any of the extended campuses.
  7. EKU Direct PIN resets can take up to two days.
  8. Do not share your password or PIN with anyone.
  9. IT or any other reputable organization will NOT request your passwords or other personal information via email.  Messages requesting such information are fraudulent and should be deleted.
  10. Make sure to create strong passwords and change them often.

Email

  1. You activate your email in EKU Direct under the 'Personal Information' tab.
  2. Reset the initial password immediately.
  3. Your email username (usually your first name_last name#) and password are your tickets to campus secure Wi-Fi, Blackboard, your email account and much more.
  4. Your email account is the official form of communication at EKU.
  5. If you get married or divorced and need to change your surname call the IT Service Desk at 859.622.3000 for assistance.
  6. To set up an iOS Device with your email account, go to the myMail page and click the ‘Configure Your iOS Device’ button.
  7. To set up other mobile devices with your email account, go to the myMail page and click the ‘Configure Other Mobile Device’ button.
  8. If you are unable to login to myMail, please clear the browser cache, close the browser then reopen it and try again.  http://it.eku.edu/support/cache-clear-mymail
  9. You can install your free copy of Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus from inside your myMail account.  http://it.eku.edu/insidelook/microsoft-office-365-pro-plus

Wi-Fi

  1. As a member of the EKU community you should use the EKU_SECURE wireless network.  It is secure and more open than the guest network. 
  2. The campus guest network is for campus guests who do not have an official EKU username and password.  It is a limited use network. 
  3. In order to connect to many resources at EKU you should be connected to the EKU_SECURE network.

  10. The wireless network is available over the entire campus.  If you find a spot with poor signal strength contact the IT Service Desk at 859.622.3000 for assistance.

Blackboard

  1. A Blackboard site is made for every class at EKU with instructor(s) and students automatically enrolled but they are not automatically made available to students. If it says 'Private' it has not been made available.
  2. Instructors must make courses available to students to see and use.  The IT Service Desk cannot make courses available for students.
  3. Students can see old courses unless the instructor makes them unavailable again or they disable the view.  http://bbhelp.eku.edu/controlling-my-courses-and-my-organizations-lists
  4. For the best Blackboard experience use Firefox. 
  5. When taking tests inside Blackboard, it is best to use a wired Internet connection in the event the wireless connection is disrupted.

Staying Safe - Passwords\Phishing

  1. You should reset your passwords once per semester.
  2. Username format is Last Name and First Name then with or without a number (John Smith – John_Smith121) or (Trudy Jones  -  Trudy_jones123).
  3. Passwords are case-sensitive and alphanumeric.
  4. You cannot reuse your previous three passwords.
  5. You cannot change your password again until at least a 24 hour elapse.  Call the IT Service Desk at 859.622.3000 if you need it changed sooner.
  6. The password should be a minimum of 10 characters.
  7. The password must start with a letter. 
  8. The password must contain one number. 
  9. The password should use upper- and lower-case letters AND one special character such as #, $, %, etc.
