Information Technology A to Z Index

W: Drive

Faculty/Staff W: Drive

Information Technology (IT) will be removing the W: drive for all EKU employees by June 1, 2017.  We will be offering employees other alternatives to this storage—GoogleDrive and OneDrive.   (Sensitive Data Storage)

What we are planning to do:

1. Eliminate employee access to W: drives that allow posting to the web in public facing websites by June 1, 2017.  IT recommends the free web hosting alternatives listed below or your department Drupal site.

2. Provide web space for academic course work.  Faculty can contact the IT Service Desk (859.622.3000) if web space is needed for a course.

IT has a legal obligation to keep individuals’ identities safe by protecting personally identifiable information (PII) as defined by US privacy laws and Kentucky state law HB5I.  If your department needs secure sharing space IT has options for that.

If you have questions, please contact the IT service desk at: 859-622-3000 for help.

Student W: Drive

Information Technology (IT) recently audited student W: drives for security purposes. The W: drive (only the 'Web' folder) is web accessible by outside individuals including people who may look to expose and/or comprise information stored there. During this audit we found sensitive information*.   IT has a legal obligation to keep individuals identities safe by protecting personally identifiable information (PII) as defined by US privacy laws and Kentucky state law HB5.   Items such as credit card numbers, drive license numbers, and other personal identifiers (e.g., social security number) are examples of information our audit found.

What we are planning to do:
1. Eliminate student access to W: drives that allow posting to the web in public facing websites by September 1, 2016.  IT
recommends the free web hosting alternatives listed below.
2. Provide web space for academic course work.  Faculty can contact the IT Service Desk (859.622.3000) if web space is needed for a course.
3. Convert the student W: drive access to student storage only.
