Using 2FA/MFA when traveling between time zones (DUO USERS ONLY)

Before you leave

Check your laptop settings to be sure the date, time, and time zone are set to update automatically.

If you have difficulty authenticating after crossing a time zone

  • Check your laptop time.  Check the date and time on your laptop to confirm that they accurately reflect local time.  If necessary, update the time and time zone manually.  To learn how, see How to set or change a computer's date and time.

  • Reset your authentication method: (DUO ONLY)
    • If you’re using the Duo Push method of authentication.  You may need to reactivate the Duo Mobile app on your device.  To learn how, see knowledge base article 2FA: Activate or Re-Activate Duo Mobile on my Smartphone to Receive Duo Push and Duo Passcodes.
    • If you’re using the Duo passcode method of authentication. Try using the Duo Mobile app to generate a new passcode by tapping the refresh arrows () on your Android or iPhone or the key symbol ( ) on your Windows phone.

If that doesn't work, you may need to reactivate the Duo Mobile app on your device.  To learn how, see knowledge base article Activate or Re-Activate Duo Mobile on my Smartphone to Receive Duo Push and Duo Passcodes.
    • If you’re using the Duo token method of authentication. If you entered a passcode generated by your token, but the code you entered simply disappeared from the 2FA Authentication Required screen without logging you in, your token may be out of sync as a result of the time change.
