IT Computer Lab & Classroom Rules

NOTE: During the pandemic, these are also rules:

  • 1-2 person to each station (PC or booth)
  • Each person must "try" to socially distance
  • Each person must wear a face mask while using our spaces
  1. All computer lab equipment is the property of EKU and falls under EKU property guidelines and the IT Code of Ethics.
  2. For security purposes, all users must log in with their assigned username and password and if that is not known, please ask the lab supervisor for assistance.
  3. You may print using the same username and password via Pharos and you will be asked to accept print charges before the document(s) print. In the event of a printer malfunction, see the lab supervisor about a print refund or request one online here: https://it.eku.edu/computer-labs-request-refund
  4. Only paper provided by the lab supervisor is permitted in the printers provided in the labs. Do not put your personal paper or other items into the printers.
  5. Each person may only use one computer at a time
  6. Computers and peripherals are not to be moved or reconfigured without the approval of lab staff
  7. The use of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco\smoking\vaping products is not allowed in computer labs
  8. No weapons are allowed in the lab
  9. Academic work has priority in the lab
  10. Food and drink is generally allowed, but that doesn't mean you should bring in a buffet, and you should clean up after yourself.
  11. Behavior and activities that disturb others or the operators of the lab are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: physical activities such as "rough-housing," loud music, talking on your phone or Zoom classes, inappropriate sexual behavior, vandalism, harassment of any kind, etc.
  12. Children are only allowed in computer labs if they are well-behaved and supervised at all times. Children may not use the computer or occupy workstation areas. At no time are children to be left unattended.
  13. With the exception of service animals assisting individuals with disabilities, no animals (e.g., emotional support animals, pets) are allowed in the computer lab at any time
  14. Remember to log out whenever you are done using lab computers. EKU cannot be held responsible for the protection of your data or account when you leave a computer logged in with your account.
  15. Remember that it is illegal to make copies of software, movies, TV shows, books, and other copyrighted materials and lab equipment should not be used for either activity
  16. Make copies of all files and save to a cloud drive (e.g., Google Drive, One Drive) or a USB drive and save often because if you are accidentally logged off or the PC restarts all your work is erased
  17. Bicycles or bike parts are not permitted in the labs.
  18. Please see the lab supervisor if you have any problems or questions.
  19. All lab patrons using online and internet resources are expected to show common courtesy and respect for both the privacy and sensibility of others. For example, do not display or print sexually explicit graphics
  20. In the event of an emergency (e.g., fire, tornado, active shooter) the lab will be immediately closed and locked and you will be instructed by the lab supervisor what to do.
  21. Violation of any of the above rules may result in disciplinary action and the loss of lab privileges.
  22. All items found in the lab will be logged in the Geek Lost and Found bin and given to a charity at the end of each semester.  Items such as keys, credit cards, etc. will be destroyed at the end of the semester.
