Blackboard will be unavailable during updates.  This minor update fixes the problems currently affecting instructors' grading of discussion forums and blogs and managing groups.  There are no changes to the user interface or program features.  We expect the system to be unavailable for up to 40 hours, as it was for the similar process in early January.  If you are teaching an eight-week class in "Term A," note that your final grades are due on Wednesday, March 22.

Systems will be moving the SCCM box to a new VM hosting box.  SCCM will be down for about 30 minutes during this time.  I should be back up by Monday morning.  This will only affect anyone imaging systems or pulling reports from the DB.

Blackboard was unavailable 12:01 a.m. Saturday until 4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 8, for an update.  There are no changes to the user interface or program features, but several changes to the "backend" should make things much smoother and less prone to glitches.

Update: Blackboard was unavailable from midnight Friday until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.  The update started normally but then slowed unexpectedly.  With assistance from Blackboard we let things finish successfully.

  • 3 p.m. - Network configuration changes for Coates Data Center.  This will affect incoming phone calls to campus for about 15 minutes
  • 5 p.m. - Firewall upgrades will be applied.  We expect this to take less than four (4) hours.  There is an outage risk, so please consider your work schedule if you need to be on campus
  • Banner users will be able to work without interruptions until 5 p.m.

We will be updating our SSL certificates used in the Lync environment.  There are no expected outage or service interruptions.  We did experience issues but those were all resolved.

At 5 p.m. we plan to cutover to a new WINS server to replace our existing WINS server.  We plan to use the same IP address so we don't have to reconfigure any server settings or DHCP scope options.

Monday, March 14
• Blackboard will be down 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• EKU Direct, Degree Works, and all other Banner production services (BDMS, Bosscars, Argos, etc.) will be unavailable stating at 5 p.m.
• Employee Email could have brief interruptions.
• Brief network interruptions are possible.

Tuesday, March 15
• Wireless network could have brief interruption in the morning.
• EKU Direct, Degree Works, and all other Banner production services (BDMS, Bosscars, Argos, etc.) will be unavailable all day.
• Campus phone services could have very brief interruption.

Wednesday, March 16
• EKU Direct, Degree Works, and other Banner production services (see above) will be back up at 7:00 a.m.
• Data Storage upgrades will briefly interrupt most services (Blackboard, Banner, Email, etc.).

Thursday, March 17
• Firewall upgrades could cause brief interruption to network and VPN connections.

Friday, March 18
• No planned interruptions.

Saturday - February 27, 2016

Banner production systems will be unavailable 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. and will affect systems such as EKUDirect, Banner (PROD), BDMS, and Argos Reporting.

Friday - February 19, 2016 - CANCELLED

Banner will be down for upgrade from 5-9 p.m. and this will affect such systems as EKUDirect.

Wednesday - February 10, 2016

At 6:00 PM this evening our electrical contractors will be doing some work to the PBX room in Coates. While this work is occurring the room will be running on UPS power, so we don’t expect any service interruptions. 

What’s happening:

1.       Power to the old Coates UPS will be shutdown.
2.       Masters is adding a new breaker to provide power to our new Coates UPS.
3.       Power is back online.
4.       After that is complete Networking is relocating the rack that provides connectivity to the President’s office. This will cause an interruption in service.

Saturday - January 9, 2016

Banner, EKUDirect, and Degreeworks Production will be down for maintenance beginning at 6:00 AM on Saturday, January 9th until 9:00 AM Saturday, January 9th. The following services will be unavailable during this time: 

  • Banner (Production)
  • EKUDirect (Production) 
  • DegreeWorks (Production)
  • Argos Reporting (Production)
  • BDMS (Production)
  • BossCars (Production)

The TEST database and related services should still work, however.
