New Students

Before You Arrive on Campus

  1. Activate your EKU myMail from your acceptance letter.  Login here: https://it.eku.edu/mymail
  2. Log into EKU Direct: https://it.eku.edu/myEKU
    a. Print out your class schedule
  3. Familiarize yourself with your EKU email account.  Visit myMail.eku.edu to begin using email and setting up your preferences.  EKU uses your @mymail.eku.edu email address to contact you about everything and anything.
  4. Update your computer (install all operating system updates-Microsoft or Apple)
  5. Install your free copy of Office 365.  Log into your myMail account and click on the cog icon in the top right corner and choose Office 365 Settings then Software.  This software is active while you are an EKU student but should be removed when you leave EKU.
  6. Secure your devices, data, and identity.  Unfortunately, EKU is a target for hackers.  So, protect yourself from cyber attacks by taking the necessary steps.
  7. Create a backup plan for your data. Don’t wait for a hard drive crash or software glitch to ruin your research paper the night before it’s due.  Set up a data backup plan now and avoid a meltdown later.

When You Arrive on Campus

  1. Install Cloud Printing (cloudprint.eku.edu) on your computer so you can print from your room to a cloud printer release station.
  2. Connect to the campus network (Ethernet) and EKU_SECURE Wi-Fi.
  3. Locate the computer lab in the lobby of your residence halls and the next closest computer lab to your hall so you have access to computers and a printer if something happens to yours.
  4. Locate the closest Geek location to you too--Crabbe Library Atrium or Roark 2nd floor--in the event you need tech support.
  5. Log into Blackboard (learn.eku.edu) to see if you have any class sites.  If your class doesn't show up, as your instructor because they control that access.
  6. Install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on your computer then update and run it at least once per month!
